The little joys of life

Today, I ran out of toothpaste.

But it was ok, because I was already well prepared with my backup. So today after lunch, I was finally able to open up a new tube, and made sure to share the experience with Wolfgang, who was in the kitchen. (I'm lucky he appreciates my randomness/weirdness).

Why is it so gradifying to open up that new tube of toothpaste? I came up with the conclusion while holding that beautiful, plump new tube of goo. I think that it is the fact that just prior to officially running out of toothpaste, you spend all that effort in squeezing the last little bit out of the tube (because you wouldn't want to waste any of it) and somehow, even though it looks like it will only last for 2 more days, it lasts for a week. So, when the day finally comes that you can throw away that pathetic, flattened tube, it is a good day.
