Baby steps

As many of you reading this probably know, the whole wedding/reception planning is a pretty big process, even if you try to make it reasonably simple and not outta control. I haven't gotten into the full swing of planning it all, because I wanted to focus on school and not fail my classes, cause I know I would abandon my work if I started getting carried away in the planning; I even vowed to not buy ANY bridal magazines until the day of my flight to Oregon to see Jess.

So yesterday was a baby step towards getting it all done for Wolfgang and I, because we took our engagement photos! Our very talented friend Ben took them for us, and did an awesome job. It was also a nice excuse just to hang out with him again. I'm sorry, but I don't have proof of the pictures yet, but it's for a good reason, because Ben is being so kind enough to photoshop some of them for us. Thanks Ben!

Not gunna lie, at first it was hard to do, because we felt awkward and cheesy, but after a while we got past that, and Ben acted like a pro.

So needless to say, I'm excited to see how they turn out. We looked through all of them, and there are definitely some good ones that are going to work out great! All I have to say is, thank goodness for digital cameras! We took a ton of pictures. It'll be fun for Wolfgang and I to pick out the ones that we really like that we want to use for our invites. I'll be sure to post them when they're available.

There is a slight chance that we may take a few more before I leave next Friday, and I've been truly inspired by some of these engagement photos for some ideas...

One last thing... only 3 more days left of school! whoo hooo!

Maunawili Falls

Last Saturday Wolfgang, Janelle and I went with my ward to Maunawili Falls. It's a hike that we've been wanting to do for some time now, and so it was perfect timing that my ward planned to go. The hike was great, not too easy and not too strenuous, so it was a nice little work out while enjoying the scenery. It was definitely a nice change compared to the last hike we did ages ago, which was Laie Falls, which is HIGHLY OVERRATED. Anyone who reads this in Laie that has not done that hike yet- don't waste your time!

Anyway...

We drove to the hike with a member of the bishopric, Brother Cannon, who also use to be my chemistry teacher. We all agreed that it was great time because we got to see the fun side of him that we've been waiting to see. He even was the first out of our group to jump off the high rocks into the pool of water! ( Even I myself jumped off, I was so proud! Although it was the smallest ledge...) Also, not to mention, on our way back from the trip, he generously bought us all food at Jack in the Box, he DEFINTELY won us over that day :) I would say that we were inspired to hop into his car...

Here are some pictures of our trip! Although sometimes the pictures don't do it justice.

The water was a bit cold...

it's official...

Wolfgang and I are ENGAGED! whoo hoo! But it's not like I'm excited or anything... ;)

So this is when I sort of wish I was more creative and elegant with my words as I report the engagement, but then it wouldn't sound like myself, so I'm just going to tell it how it is :)

So we have known for several weeks now that we are going to get married, and so it has been an exciting time for us both. We decided to be selective on who to tell, because we wanted to wait until it was official, but once I told my family (especially mom...love you mom) I'm sure a good chunk of Page knew within a few days.

As many of you know, I have a struggle putting on big girl pants when it comes to making important decisions. I don't know what the deal is, they just never seem to fit right! So instead of keeping them on, and waiting for them to stretch a little until they fit right (you know what I'm talking about...jeans right out of the dryer? no good at first...), I decide to either A. don't even bother putting them on, or B. slip them on, but feel a little weird in them, then promptly take them back off. Well anyway, you get the idea.

So several weeks ago, I decided to put on the big girl pants, and keep them on this time. I had struggled for months knowing what was the right decision. I won't get into ever detail, but I know the Lord's hand was in it the whole process.

Remember that blog post about our date to Sunset Beach? Yep, that's when I told Wolfgang I wanted to marry him (He has known for a long time now, and has just been waiting so patiently with me, I consider myself one LUCKY girl, I know many others would of not been that patient.) We were both so excited, that we went ring shopping two days later. We were hoping to find two or three we liked, and then for him to pick one out on his own, but we narrowed it down to one that we both really liked:
some pictures Wolfgang took of the ring before the engagement

Ever since then I was way too anxious for the real deal, even though we set the wedding date at the temple within a few days or so after that. :)

So I may be a slightly difficult person to give a surprise to, because I always suspect something and come up with every scenario possible, so I can usually clue in on when it going to come. A few times Wolfgang temporarily tricked me into thinking he was going to propose, one time being when we was really cute and left me this on my bed:

What a guy!

So yes, that confused me for a few minutes, thinking that it was leading up to the engagement, but it did not. That was also the day he told me that the ring was going to take longer than it was suppose to, so I was bummed about it, because I was really looking forward to us being official within a few days.

Then a couple of days ago, Wolfgang insisted on us going snorkeling on Thursday (yesterday), because he had the day off. At first I pretended to have self control about my schooling and told him no I could not, because I had a lot of school work to do, but he kept being persistent, so I gave in. I was a little skeptical when he kept wanting to SO badly, but I didn't want to read into it too much.

So then yesterday my roommate Janelle, him, and I went to a new beach over on the southwest-ish shore that we hadn't been to before. I noticed that Wolfgang had with him his backpack which he NEVER brings to the beach, so I started to suspect something again, but again I didn't want to get too excited, because he DID say the ring wasn't coming in until the following week...

When Janelle and I came back to the beach from using the restrooms, I noticed a burried bottle in the sand right next to my beach towel, with only the mouth of it sticking out of the sand.
I was pretty curious, because I didn't remember seeing it before, but once again, I didn't want to look too anxious and it end up being and empty bottle of someone's good time at the beach, so, I left it there for a while, although the looks on Janelle's and Wolfgang's faces were a little suspicious. Then came along some random local guy and his wife and toddler, and he was very nice and warned us of the high theft in the area, and to make sure we didn't leave valuables in the car, which we were already aware of, then he proceeded to tell us everything else possible he could think of on the spot, and of course I listened to him for at least....20 min, with the bottle still siting in the sand. Poor Wolfgang, he probably was about to explode with excitement, and here I am talking to a local bum about his life story.

Finally I strategically got the guy to leave, and got back to the lonely bottle, and thought "eh, what the heck", and dug it out of the sand, and inside was a message! :) At this point Janelle is now documenting it on her camera, which I did not catch on until a few minutes later, then I felt slightly awkward, but proceeded. It was kind of hard to get the message out, but within a few minutes I got it out and it was this cute "message in a bottle" Wolfgang had written to me, and he even burned the edges for the full affect. :)

While I was reading it, he then pulled out the ring! He even really liked the "Kay" bag that the ring and box came in, so he brought it along too, haha. Then he did it, he expressed his undying love for me, told me how perfect and flawless I am, how there is no one in the world better for him than me, I'll be the best mother of his children....and put the ring on my finger. Ok, maybe not really that extreme. :) All in attendance were Janelle, and also random diver that had just gotten out of the water just in time, and even congratulated us as he walked on by.

Here are some pictures that Janelle took

Our "awkward engagement photo" poses, complete with "hand on the chest" to show off the ring

Although like I mentioned earlier that I was slightly awkward during the actual proposal because it was being recorded, here is the video of it that Janelle took. I'm very grateful that she was there and did that for us, because now we have it and can also show it to our kids one day :) (woah, what a weird thought...) Thanks Janelle!

I promise I'm not abusive... the random pinches were because he lied and said the ring wouldn't be done until next week :)

And there you have it! Sorry that was such a long post, but hopefully it was more enjoyable than painful. We will be getting married August 21st in the St. George, Utah temple, and will have a reception that night in Page, AZ. We are both so excited we can't hardly even handle it. Although this is cheesy and I try not to show my cheesy side to others, but every day we tell each other, "we're getting married!" and act like little girls about it... :)

I love you all and thanks for all of your support! We'll be sure to keep you posted on plans and the wedding planning process...oh boy...

They always get you in the end

For those of you deprived, The Biggest Loser finale was on tonight, and it was great! It was fun to see all the contestants again and to see how far they had gone in losing weight, (or not-so-far others had gotten). I was honestly really surprised to see that HELEN ended up winning! I thought it was for sure going to be Mike (or even Tara), but at the same time I'm kind of glad he or his dad didn't win, because they needed the karma.

Moving on...
So the second night of helping my friend with her research went fine, and it made things a little exciting when right in front of me I saw a snippet of an orange with white stripes eel that had to of been at least 3 in. in diameter slither underneath some rocks. Luckily I didn't see its face or its whole body, otherwise I would of been outta there within a heartbeat.

I was just scanning through some pictures that Wolfgang and I took the other week when we went to Sunset Beach to watch the sunset. It was a fun and exciting evening, and I wanted to just share some pictures that we took.

I thought this one turned out cool

Random dog that decided to join us.

round 2

so last week my not-so-much night snorkel ended up consisting of standing covered in goosebumps while holding a clipboard and recording data every 10 minutes or so and trying not to be paranoid thinking that the big swells coming in would come rolling over the volcanic rock walls and kill us all. Although in all honesty after seeing how cold the water was, I would of rather just stand there than get in the water.
Because of my people-pleaser character, I agreed to help out again tonight, so we'll see how it goes. Yesterday was a good day, Wolfgang and I went out of town to Costco with two of our friends. woot woot! It's quite pathetic when a good time consists of leaving town to go to Costco, but sometimes that's all it takes to just get out of town and relax and just ride along. I do have to say though, Costco pizza is THE BOMB! Better than Pizza Hut crap, AND it's cheap! We were fully entertained when we threw miniscule pieces of crust in the air for the birds to catch, until old-cranky-"darn-kids!!"-lady croaked at us in the most awful voice (we decided it was kind of like the old monster lady in the movie "Monster's Inc."), "YOU AREN'T SUPPOSED TO FEED THE BIRDS!" It's too bad she has nothing better to do than to be the bird patrol at Costco. We presumed once she left, but the other birds just weren't as speedy as the first guy.

That's all from me. time for a nap.

OH, and p.s...I just love " The Biggest Loser!" I'm completely hooked, and indeed wasted 2 hours ago watching it last night, and I can't wait for the season finale next week! :)
