For those of you that saw my blog towards the beginning of the semester, you saw my cute little house/apt that I've been very blessed with. Living here in Laie, you have to look really hard for a decent place, and you housing standard has to drop significantly if you even want to consider to live off campus. (Yet I personally believe, that living off campus is TOTALLY worth it for a number of reasons). Even though I love almost everything about the place I live in now, I'm moving out at the end of the semester. My roommate has threatened my life, I'm sick of the beer in the fridge, and the cockroaches are outrageous.
not really.
The real reasons are that this place is just a bit too pricey for me, and they are even bumping up rent a little bit, and quite honesty, I'm not a complete supporter of how my housing company does business. Nothing horrible by any means, but I'm moving out nonetheless. SO, with that said, a friend of mine and a roommate have been looking desperately for a new place to live. It's been pretty hard though to find a place this late in the year with three open vacancies, and a parking place for my roommate that owns a car. Needless to say, we haven't had the best of luck. We found a few places that were ok, but kind of sketchy.
By this point we had excepted the fact we probably wouldn't find a place that would accomodate all of our wants. Yesterday though, we went to an apt, and it was GREAT! We finally found a place that was nice and clean!! Pretty uncommon here in Laie. The only downfall was that there were only 2 spots open and not 3. So long story short, we decided it was time to face the fact that we all can't live with each other, so my friend and I that originally wanted to live with each other in the first place decided this is where we wanted to live. The only down fall is that there were two different apts in this house to choose from, and one opening per place. So my friend Janelle called the lady and tried to convince her to make arrangements so that we could live in the same place. We have even bribed to give her the deposit today(and she says a couple of other girls haven't given the deposit yet), if she agrees. The one crappy reason that is keeping us from living in the same unit, is that a girl that signed a contract to live there a day before us, wants to live in that particular one because of the dishwasher. Are you kidding me? Cleaning dishes are not that hard. If I live in that apt, I probably won't hardly use the dishwasher anyway. I learned early on after moving out of the house that not having a dishwasher, really isn't that bad! Especially when I lived with my sister and her roommates a couple of years ago, I learned this really quick, when I was known as the "Dish Bi..." never mind.
Anyway, so hopefully this will all work out, and Janelle and I can live together. And really, it's not a matter of us having to be together 24/7, or that we are inseperable and are BFFs, but it's the fact that when you've found someone you can get a long with and can live with, it's a lot nicer to stick with them than to have a mystery new roommate. As fun as that has been the last 3 years, it gets kind of old and you just want to room with someone you know already, and know you'll get a long with.
So cross your fingers for us! We should know later today. I'll keep you updated.
