Birthday Boy

Yesterday was my dear husband's birthday- he too now is officially old now and 25.

We both took the day off from work (preplanned, it wasn't one of those "call in sick" things...) and enjoyed the day.

I bought him some shoes he was eying on my birthday

He loves them, I'm still learning to like them

and he was also spoiled from other gifts and kind cards from family members.

When I asked him in advance what he wanted to do for his birthday, he told me he wanted to see two movies. So, that's what we did. Thank goodness for our continual stash of free movie tickets.

We saw:

50/50

I can't remember the last time I cried so much in a movie, but I definitely recommend it.

and Real Steel

both were good movies, but I have to say that I liked 50/50 more. Here's the trailer for 50/50 and the trailer for Real Steel.

For Wolfgang's cake, he requested anything chocolately, so I made just a dark chocolate out-of-the-box cake, then decided to spice things up a little and made a raspberry filling, and then topped it with chocolate frosting. It turned out pretty tasty (and extremely unhealthy?) if I say so myself.

The day ended with dinner at The Macaroni Grill, and sharing cake with friends. I think it turned out quite well.

I just can't get enough

This is one of the few movies I have ever purchased; I don't think I'll ever get sick of it.

Happy Labor Day

Somehow Wolfgang and I both got today off from work, which was really nice. So far we have caught up on sleep {I've been more lazy than him today}, washed our car which was desperately needed, and went and saw this movie:
It wasn't exactly what I expected, but I still really liked it.

Hope you all are able to/have been able to enjoy this holiday weekend one way or another.

In a land far, far away...

Once upon a time , I wrote this post. I never did end up finding/meeting Johnny Depp, I tried twice and barely missed him both times! Quite tragic, really.

Well, as the free movie tickets keep rolling in, we keep going. Yesterday we watched Pirates 4, and it was pretty good, nothing amazing; although I never get tired of checking out Captain Jack Sparrow...

It was fun to see the scenes of where we found the actual movie sets while in Hawaii. Sadly, I don't have any pictures of them {Bullocks? Maybe you have them all?}, but in the movie it's when they are in kinda a jungle-y area, and where all the small pools of water are, and where the mermaid is strapped and abandoned; righteous man tries to save the day and cheesy lines are exchanged.

Now, I kinda wished we would have taken the abandoned props like we wanted to, would have been cool, but oh well.

They need to stop making movies in Hawaii so that we don't get homesick for it as much. We're convinced though that we WILL go back to visit one day, and maybe even live there again for a little bit? Who knows; your guess is as good as mine.

Movies

Wolfgang and I really like to watch movies, and have been on a movie kick lately.

Because of his mad skillz at work, Wolfgang has been getting an ample amount of free movie tickets through a selling incentive (a raise would be more favorable, but I guess this will do for now). So needless to say, we've been pretty up-to-date with recent movies.

One of my favorites so far, has been "Soul Surfer"

I'm not sure if we loved this so much because they filmed some of it at the beaches we use to go to regularly, or the fact that our friends are in it, or the fact it made us tear up a bit and had us home sick for Hawaii.

With that all aside, I think it is a really well done "feel good" movie that everyone can enjoy. So for anyone else that may have seen it, is it as good as I say it is? I'm curious if I'm just biased :)

Go see it!

A few things

A few happenings this last week...

- Wolfgang and I went to "Black Forest Haus" for some German food (with my $25 gift card that I only paid $3 for, thank you very much). Wolfgang loved it and the food was good. I knew it was a true German spot when I saw this on our table:

-Wolfgang got new glasses! He's a happy boy. I can't even count how many times during the time we were looking at glasses, and him saying, "WOW! I have AMAZING insurance!" "This is so cheap!"
{picture to come}

-I had 2 interviews this last week, and have 2 more for next week lined up

-Last night we watched Disneynature Oceans (courtesy of our free month with blockbuster.com)... and LOVED it! I love the ocean and especially the creatures inside of it. The movie was very well done and the photography is beyond words. Go watch it!

-Finally starting to recycle here, even though I'm not quite sure where I can take it to yet...Google and I will figure it out shortly.

-The weather is now officially getting to 90 degrees. oh boy.

Have a great weekend :)
